"If Varsho doesn't win a Platinum Glove, then we need to get rid of it," Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt said, per Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith. "He's the best defender in all of baseball, and no one's even close."
Varsho is in the 99th percentile in outs above average and leads all outfielders with 21 defensive runs saved. The 28-year-old also ranks second to Washington Nationals outfielder Jacob Young in defensive WAR with 11.1.
"I've said it a million times: he's the best there is," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said.
Varsho is looking to win his first Gold Glove this season. He finished as a finalist for the award in left field last campaign, which Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians ultimately won.
