Twins' Ryan exits start vs. Cubs with triceps tightness

Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan left his start against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday with right triceps tightness, the Twins announced.

With no outs in the bottom of the third inning, Ryan threw a splitter to Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong on a 1-1 count that missed high and outside. Ryan then immediately called for team officials.

The 28-year-old walked off the field with Twins manager Rocco Baldelli and head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta following a brief discussion.

Manager Rocco Baldelli didn't have a timetable for Ryan's return, and hinted that Ryan landing on the injured list is likely.

"It's not good and he's probably going to miss a little time here, in one form or another, but we're going to have to wait and see," Baldelli said following the Twins' loss to the Chicago Cubs, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Star Tribune. "Plenty of time to come back and pitch some games for us this year."

Trevor Richards entered the game as his replacement.

Ryan is producing a strong 2024 campaign, recording a 3.60 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 135 innings pitched. His 147 strikeouts rank fourth in the American League.
