Yankees GM: 'Currently no lane for us' to call up Domínguez

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says top prospect Jasson Domínguez is shaking off the rust while he waits for a path to the majors.

"He's just waiting in the wings, hungry and waiting to see if he gets his chance," Cashman said on MLB Network Radio, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.

"It's nice to know he's available to us if need be. There's currently no lane for us to bring him. It's nice to know he's there. He's just knocking rust off and waiting for his opportunity if it comes."

The 21-year-old Domínguez is hitting .253/.303/.386 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 21 Triple A games after a dazzling 2023 debut in which he posted a .980 OPS with four homers and seven RBIs in eight big-league contests.

Domínguez has spent his entire 2024 season in the minors and missed most of the campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery and an oblique injury.

"He’s healthy," Cashman said. "Ultimately, the injuries this year prevented him from getting much of a bulk of performance. He’s definitely sitting there waiting in the wings if need be, playing mostly in center field. I think we’re going to get him over in left. He’s done multiple positions in his career.

The Yankees do not appear to have a need for an extra outfielder on the big-league roster, with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham occupying roster spots.

Soto and Verdugo are free agents at the end of the season, although the Yankees are interested in re-signing Soto, according to multiple reports.
