The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Byron Buxton on the injured list with right hip inflammation, the club announced Thursday.

Buxton underwent an MRI, which revealed no structural damage in his hip, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes.

"We just understood that he wasn't going to be back for a few more days, and we have some other players that are probably also going to need to be off at some point over the next handful of days," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said, per Stephen Hawkins of the Associated Press. "We just can't play short for almost a week in order to do that."

Minnesota recalled infielder Edouard Julien and right-hander Ronny Henriquez from Triple-A. The Twins also optioned right-hander Louie Varland after he made a spot during Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Buxton, 30, exited Monday's game with right hip discomfort. This is Buxton's second IL stint of the season; he missed two weeks in May with right knee inflammation.

Buxton has dealt with injuries throughout his career, appearing in 100 games just once in 10 MLB seasons. He has had a strong season in 2024, posting an .862 OPS with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs in 90 games.
