Reds' Greene lands on IL with elbow soreness
The Cincinnati Reds placed pitcher Hunter Greene on the 15-day injured list with right elbow soreness, the team announced Saturday.
A corresponding roster move has yet to be announced.
"I have not seen Hunter yet, but I would say initially, from what I've heard, it's good, but it's at least gonna be the 15 days," Reds manager David Bell told Bally Sports Cincinnati. "I do believe there's a lot of hope to get him back after that."
Greene, who was named to his first All-Star team this summer, is enjoying a breakout season in which he's posted a 2.83 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across a career-high 143 1/3 innings.
The 24-year-old has excelled at limiting hits, leading the National League in both batting average against (.185) and hits per nine (5.8).
The Reds drafted Greene second overall in the 2017 MLB Draft as a potential two-way player before converting him into a full-time pitcher.
Greene owns a career 3.94 ERA across three MLB seasons.
