Padres broadcasters shocked by low attendance in St. Louis
San Diego Padres television broadcasters Don Orsillo and Mark Grant were shocked by the sparse crowds during the team's recent series at the St. Louis Cardinals' Busch Stadium.
"This is not the Busch Stadium I am used to," Grant said, according to Ethan Erickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Late August, early September, usually it's packed, the Redbirds are in the race. It is a different vibe here."
"It's shocking," Orsillo added.
The Cardinals have ranked in the top five in total attendance since 2012, when they finished sixth. St. Louis is fifth in total attendance this year, with over 2.4 million fans at Busch Stadium, and seventh in average attendance per game at 35,741 fans.
A new low of 27,224 was the announced ticket sold crowd at Busch Stadium.
