New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was noncommittal about Clay Holmes' future in the closer role after the righty blew his MLB-leading 11th save in Tuesday's loss to the Texas Rangers.

"I'm not going to answer that right now when we're raw and emotional," he said, according to MLB.com's Dave Sessions.

"We'll talk through and do what we think is the best thing. ... He's really important to us down there (in the bullpen). We need his excellence to be part of the group down there. So this is a tough one."

Holmes entered in the bottom of the ninth with the Yankees leading 4-3. After loading the bases on a hit and two walks, he allowed a walk-off grand slam to rookie Wyatt Langford.

Holmes has struggled mightily since the All-Star break, blowing five of his last 13 save attempts with a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.

New York's bullpen ranks 22nd in ERA during that stretch.

"Some tough ones here of late, and we've got to support him and make sure he's right and a big part of what we're doing back there," Boone added. "We have options down there, and we'll consider everything."

The loss, combined with a Baltimore Orioles win, dropped the Yankees a half-game out of first in the AL East.
