Twins claim Irvin off waivers from Orioles
The Minnesota Twins claimed pitcher Cole Irvin off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced Monday.
Minnesota designated right-hander Randy Dobnak for assignment in a corresponding move.
The Orioles designed Irvin for assignment Sunday after he posted a 4.86 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 25 games (16 starts) this season.
Irvin won't be eligible for the Twins' postseason roster if the club secures a playoff spot. Players must be on a team's 40-man roster or 60-day injured list before the Aug. 31 eligibility deadline.
The 30-year-old lefty should nonetheless provide the Twins with some much-needed pitching depth over the next two weeks. Minnesota is currently missing starters Joe Ryan and Chris Paddack, as well as several bullpen arms.
Irvin owns a career 4.49 ERA across his six MLB seasons.
