The Boston Red Sox placed star third baseman Rafael Devers on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation, the club announced.

The Red Sox recalled catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.

Devers struggled in September, slashing .188/.293/.203 with one extra-base hit and three RBIs in 18 games.

"You saw him throwing today," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. "It was bothering him. Actually, when he hit inside, he felt it. So he's gonna get an MRI tomorrow, see where we're at, and probably this is it for him."

Devers, 27, finishes the 2024 campaign with 28 home runs, 87 runs scored, and 83 RBIs across 138 games.

The Red Sox are 76-78 this season and have a 0.1% chance of making the postseason, according to FanGraphs.
