Guardians clinch 2nd AL Central title in 3 years
The Cleveland Guardians are kings of the American League Central again.
The Guardians clinched a second division title in three years and fifth over the last nine seasons after the Kansas City Royals' 9-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Cleveland secured a postseason berth earlier this week, rebounding from a disappointing 76-86 campaign in 2023.
The Guardians have been one of baseball's best teams in 2024 in the first season under rookie manager Stephen Vogt.
"The opportunity to come in and have this job, and come to a city like Cleveland, to take over for someone like Tito Francona, for them to trust me with that job - it means the world to me and my family. ... It's a huge honor and a huge responsibility," Vogt said, according to Bally Sports Cleveland.
Cleveland's 90 wins are tied with the New York Yankees for the highest total in the AL.
