Trout believes Angels need to add players: 'It's all up to the owner'

Mike Trout believes better days are ahead for the Los Angeles Angels if ownership is willing to invest in the team.

"A couple additions in the offseason could make a big difference," Trout said, according to The Athletic's Sam Blum and Andy McCullough. "It's all up to the owner. I think that's where we're at."

The Halos entered the 2024 season on an uphill climb after losing Shohei Ohtani to the crosstown rival Los Angeles Dodgers on a record 10-year, $700-million deal in free agency.

However, the Angels' 63-93 record - second-worst in the American League - is nonetheless disappointing, especially considering the club hasn't made the postseason since being swept in the 2014 ALDS.

"It's been 10 years now since we've made the playoffs," he said on his newfound willingness to speak out. "I think that has something to do with it. I think the fans want playoff baseball like everybody else."

Trout himself has struggled through another injury-riddled campaign, appearing in just 29 games while tearing his meniscus twice.

He has only played in 100 games once since 2021.

The 32-year-old still has six years and $216 million remaining on the contract extension he signed with Los Angeles in 2019.
