Yankees place Cortes on IL with elbow flexor strain
The New York Yankees placed pitcher Nestor Cortes on the injured list with a left elbow flexor strain, the club announced Wednesday.
Cortes was scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Right-hander Marcus Stroman will start in Cortes' place, while the club recalled right-hander Cody Poteet in a corresponding roster move. New York can clinch its second AL East title in three years with a victory.
Nestor Cortes said he will be shut down for 7-10 days. He said his UCL is intact, imaging from today will be sent to at least two other doctors for opinions, and he’ll likely receive a PRP injection.
