Skip Schumaker told Miami Marlins players Friday that he won't be returning as the team's manager for the 2025 season, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The 2023 NL Manager of the Year is already away from the team for the final two games of the campaign due to a family issue.

Schumaker will be highly sought after as a free agent and continues to be well regarded despite the Marlins' 60-100 record amid another rebuilding season, Passan adds.

The Marlins originally had a team option on Schumaker's contract for 2025. However, the 44-year-old had his deal restructured and the option removed when Kim Ng resigned from her post as general manager after Miami wanted to hire a president of baseball operations over her.

Schumaker possesses a 143-178 record over his two-year career with the Marlins.

The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox are the only teams heading into the offseason without full-time managers.
