Chaotic NL wild-card race to be settled Monday

The final two National League wild-card spots will be settled Monday in Atlanta.

The New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks won their respective games on Sunday, with the Atlanta Braves losing.

Sunday's Results

• D-Backs beat Padres 11-2
• Mets beat Brewers 5-0
• Royals beat Braves 4-2

This means both games of Monday's doubleheader between the Braves and Mets will take place. The winner of Game 1 will clinch a playoff berth. If the loser of Game 1 wins Game 2, it will earn the final NL playoff spot. If either team is swept in the two-game series, it is out, and the Diamondbacks are in.

Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader begins at 1:10 p.m. ET, with Game 2 starting shortly after the conclusion of Game 1.

The Braves will start right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach in Game 1 and plan to use southpaw Chris Sale in Game 2 if necessary. The Mets will start Tylor Megill in Game 1, with Luis Severino set for Game 2 if New York needs to win.

The NL wild-card games get underway Tuesday with the Brewers facing the No. 6 seed and the San Diego Padres squaring off against the No. 5 seed.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies earned first-round byes.
