Brewers owner hopes to keep Adames: 'We'll do what we can'
Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said Tuesday that he hopes to retain impending free-agent shortstop Willy Adames, but he's aware of the challenge ahead.
"I think the free-agent contract is going to be very valuable for him and quite high," Attanasio told reporters, per 97.3 The Game. "We'll do what we can to stretch, but others have bigger pocketbooks and, we'll see what happens."
Adames is expected to be this offseason's marquee free agent at the position.
The 29-year-old put together an excellent campaign in 2024, slashing .251/.331/.462, and he set career highs with 31 home runs, 93 runs scored, and 112 RBIs across 161 games.
The Brewers acquired Adames from the Tampa Bay Rays in a four-player trade in May 2021.
He's registered a .780 OPS with 107 home runs and 348 RBIs in 548 games across parts of four seasons with the Brewers.
