Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames and New York Mets Jesse Winker had a heated exchange after Winker's two-run triple in the second inning of Tuesday's wild-card opener.

"I don't know what was going through his head, but he started saying some stuff, and I said something back," Adames said postgame, per Bally Sports Wisconsin. "I think that's the kind of player he is. ... It was surprising that he would say some stuff, but I guess that's part of his personality."

Winker and Adames were teammates on the Brewers in 2023. Winker struggled in his only season in Milwaukee, registering a .567 OPS with one home run in 61 games.

Winker declined to discuss the exchange with Adames following the contest, saying he wanted to "focus on the game tomorrow," per SNY.

The Mets will try eliminating the Brewers when the teams play Game 2 of their wild-card series Wednesday night.
