Milwaukee Brewers star closer Devin Williams isn't making any excuses.

Williams surrendered a three-run home run to Mets star Pete Alonso in the ninth inning of Thursday's Game 3, with the first baseman's clutch blast leading New York to a 4-2 win and eliminating Milwaukee from the postseason.

"I didn't execute the way I needed to," Williams told reporters postgame. "They got the job done, and I didn't."

Williams entered in the ninth with a 2-0 lead and walked Francisco Lindor to start the inning. The right-hander then struck out Mark Vientos before allowing a single to Brandon Nimmo. With two baserunners on and one out, Williams gave up just his second home run of the season in 24 appearances with Alonso's late-game heroics.

"(Location) could have been better, but it wasn't the worst pitch I've ever thrown," Williams said. "I wanted to go away with it, I got it there. A good piece of hitting."

Williams was charged with all four runs.

"I was just looking for something out over the dish," Alonso told MLB Network. "I know (Williams) has got really electric stuff, and I just wanted something I could handle up out over the plate."

The Brewers have now lost six straight postseason series.

"It's a lot of disappointment," Williams said. "We worked all year to get to this point. They got me a two-run lead there in the ninth. That's how we draw it up, and I couldn't come through for the boys. No one feels worse than I do."

Williams posted a 1.25 ERA and converted 14 of 15 save opportunities during the 2024 regular season. He has a $10.5-million team option for 2025 before becoming a free agent.
