Angels owner expects playoff contention, increased payroll in 2025
Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno is expecting his club to bounce back in 2025.
"We have a plan to try to add players that are going to help us compete," Moreno told Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
The Angels stumbled through their worst-ever season in 2024, finishing with a 63-99 record.
They carried the 14th-highest payroll in MLB this season at over $172 million. Moreno believes that number will increase in the offseason.
"It's going to go up," he said.
The Angels had strong contributions from young players like Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel this season, leading Moreno to believe that the team isn't too far from contending for a postseason spot.
"That's our goal," he said. "We're looking at '25-'26 because of the young people coming, but our goal is to be in the playoffs in '25."
The Angels haven't made the postseason since 2014 and have only qualified once during three-time MVP Mike Trout's 14-year career.
