The Philadelphia Phillies have benched All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm for NLDS Game 2 against the New York Mets.

Edmundo Sosa is playing third base and batting eighth instead.

"He's scuffling a little bit," Thomson said of Bohm, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

"It's not like there aren’t other guys scuffling in the lineup, but I just want to get some energy in the lineup. And I think Sosa is kind of an energy guy; run around and do some things, maybe create some things."

Bohm hit .280/.332/.448 with 44 doubles and 97 RBIs in 143 games during the regular season. However, much of the 27-year-old's production came in the first half as he's slumped since the beginning of September (.502 OPS). He went 0-4 in Saturday's disappointing Game 1 loss.

Sosa, meanwhile, posted a 104 OPS+ in a utility role for the Phillies.

Thomson said he informed Bohm of the decision Saturday night and encouraged him to stay ready.

"I just told him, 'Be ready to pinch hit'," Thomson added. "I just wanted to get that energy into the lineup. (Bohm) is actually a really good pinch hitter."

First pitch in Game 2 is set for 4:08 pm ET on Sunday.
