Phillies even series with wild Game 2 win over Mets

The Philadelphia Phillies tied up the NLDS with a wild 7-6 victory over the New York Mets in Game 2.

It was a back-and-forth contest that featured huge swings of momentum and several lead changes. Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos secured the victory with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning off Mets right-hander Tylor Megill.

"It was incredible," Castellanos told Fox Sports' Tom Verducci about the intensity of the game. "The series is even. We go to New York, there's a lot of baseball left. So, as soon as we can, just turn the page and get refocused on Game 3."

The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Mark Vientos took Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez deep for a two-run home run in the top of the third inning.

Pete Alonso added on with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but the Phillies punched back with back-to-back home runs from Bryce Harper and Castellanos to tie the game 3-3 after six innings.

The Mets retook the lead in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Brandon Nimmo.

The Phillies responded once again in the bottom of the eighth, retaking the lead when Bryson Stott delivered a two-run triple off Mets closer Edwin Díaz.

Philadelphia held a 6-4 advantage heading into the top of the ninth, when Vientos came through with a two-run blast to tie the game.

The two teams will have an off day before the series resumes with Game 3 at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday.

"Can't wait to play in front of our fanbase," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said postgame, per SNY. "It's been a while. We'll be ready to go."
