Cease to start Game 4, Dodgers going with bullpen game
San Diego Padres right-hander Dylan Cease will start Game 4 of the NLDS, Padres manager Mike Shildt announced, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Cease started Game 1 on Oct. 5, allowing five earned runs on six hits across 3 1/3 innings. He'll be making the Game 4 start on just three days' rest for the first time in his career.
"I'm looking forward to it," Cease said, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. "I'm excited. I've never done it, but that doesn't really mean anything to me. Doesn't mean I can't do it."
The Dodgers will counter with a bullpen game, manager Dave Roberts said, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
Los Angeles has navigated injuries to Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, and Gavin Stone, leaving Roberts with a three-man rotation.
The Padres will look to close out the Dodgers and advance to their second NLCS in three years when the two teams square off in Game 4 on Wednesday night.
