Report: Reinsdorf open to selling White Sox
Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf is open to selling the franchise, sources told The Athletic's Britt Ghiroli.
Reinsdorf has been in active discussions with a group led by former MLB pitcher Dave Stewart, Ghiroli adds. Reinsdorf purchased the franchise in 1981.
The White Sox struggled through the worst season in modern MLB history in 2024, surpassing the 1962 New York Mets with 121 losses.
"Everyone in this organization is extremely unhappy with the results of this season, that goes without saying," Reinsdorf said in a statement in September.
The White Sox haven't won a postseason series since winning the World Series in 2005.
Stewart's group, Smoke34, previously tried to buy Oakland's stake in Oakland Coliseum. Stewart is also involved with trying to bring an expansion baseball team to Nashville.
