Montreal's Olympic Stadium not an option for Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays need a new home after Tropicana Field was damaged by Hurricane Milton, but they won't be moving to Montreal.

Olympic Stadium is not available while it undergoes roof construction over the next four years, Montreal officials told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

"Until 2028, the field of play will be within a construction site and therefore not open to the public," officials said in an email.

Montreal was previously considered as part of a plan in which the Rays would split their time between two cities. The idea was ultimately rejected by Major League Baseball in 2022.

Tropicana Field's roof was shredded by Hurricane Milton earlier this month, with the Rays saying it would take weeks to assess the damage.

The Rays were recently told their Triple-A site in Durham, North Carolina was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts and logistical issues.

Other potential sites are being discussed internally by the Rays, according to Topkin.
