The Los Angeles Dodgers must like what they see from New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto in the World Series.

The Dodgers are interested in signing Soto this offseason and intend to make a play for him if interest is mutual, sources told the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Yankees people don't believe Soto wants to return to the West Coast after his tenure with the San Diego Padres only lasted a season-and-a-half, Heyman reports. They think their biggest threats for Soto in free agency are the New York Mets and, potentially, the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Dodgers have the financial flexibility and muscle to sign Soto, who's expected to ink one of the biggest contracts in baseball history thanks to the deferrals in the $700-million contract Shohei Ohtani signed last offseason.

Soto has enjoyed a tremendous 2024 campaign with the Yankees after coming over in an offseason trade. The 26-year-old slashed .288/.419/.569 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, and 128 runs scored in the regular season.

He's continued to perform well in the postseason, posting a 1.160 OPS with four homers, and he has a .429/.556/.857 slash line in the World Series so far.
