What the odds say: Can the Yankees come back from 3-0 deficit?
Odds and data via theScore Bet and ESPN Bet
The Yankees are staring down a World Series sweep at the hands of the Dodgers after losing a third straight game Tuesday night.
The Bronx Bombers face an improbable task, but not an impossible one. Their odds of winning the World Series are +1100 (8.3% implied probability) - but they'll have to pull off a feat accomplished by just one team in MLB history.
Only the 2004 Red Sox have erased a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series. The Astros nearly did it in 2020 but fell short in Game 7 in the ALCS. No team has ever done it in a World Series.
There's a chance New York pulls off the improbable. There's also a chance the series goes to seven games - those odds sit at +600 (14.3% implied probability).
If there's any shot of a comeback, the Yankees' bats must wake up. Aaron Judge has an abysmal .140 average in the postseason and only has one hit in the World Series. New York has scored just seven runs as a team in three contests against Los Angeles.
The Dodgers go for the sweep Wednesday at 8:08 p.m. ET. They're +125 underdogs and have yet to name a starting pitcher to face the Yankees and Luis Gil.
