Report: D-Backs' Montgomery exercises option for 2025
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Jordan Montgomery exercised his player option for the 2025 season, sources told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
The Diamondbacks signed Montgomery to a one-year, $25-million contract in March with a vesting option that will be worth $22.5 million after Montgomery made more than 18 starts this season.
The 31-year-old struggled in 2024, posting an 8-7 record with a 6.23 ERA and 83 strikeouts across 117 innings (21 starts).
Montgomery fired his agent Scott Boras in April and later blamed him for "butchering" his free agency.
Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick expressed regret for signing Montgomery, calling it a "horrible decision."
"If anyone wants to blame anyone for Jordan Montgomery being a Diamondback, you're talking to the guy that should be blamed because I brought it to their attention," Kendrick said.
