Mets sign Meneses to minor-league deal
The New York Mets signed first baseman Joey Meneses to a minor-league contract, they announced Friday.
The agreement includes an invitation to big-league spring training. Financials of the pact weren't revealed.
Meneses, 32, debuted with the Washington Nationals in 2022. He spent three seasons in D.C., slashing .274/.322/.408 with 29 home runs and 165 RBIs in 286 games.
He struggled to a career-low .593 OPS (70 OPS+) in 76 games last season.
The Mets are currently projected to start Mark Vientos at first base. Pete Alonso, who had manned first for the Mets since 2019, is a free agent.
New York also announced the signing of catcher Jakson Reetz to a minor-league deal. Reetz, 28, spent most of last season with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento and appeared in six big-league contests for San Francisco.
