Report: Red Sox schedule meeting with Adames
The Boston Red Sox have strong interest in signing shortstop Willy Adames and have an upcoming meeting scheduled with the infielder, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
Boston is considering shifting Rafael Devers from third base to first to accommodate Adames, who is reportedly willing to play the hot corner instead of shortstop if he gets a good offer from a contender.
The Red Sox, along with the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays, have been connected to Adames for weeks, while Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy believes the infielder is too pricey for his team to re-sign.
Adames is one of the top free-agent position players available this offseason after he put together a career year in 2024. The 29-year-old hit 32 home runs and 112 RBIs with a .794 OPS, while stealing 21 bags.
Boston is also considering signing free-agent Alex Bregman or trading for Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals.
