Report: Cubs land Boyd with 2-year, $29M deal
The Chicago Cubs agreed to a two-year, $29-million deal with left-hander Matthew Boyd, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
Boyd will be paid $14.5 million per year with $1 million ($500,000 per season) available in performance bonuses.
The 33-year-old latched on with the Cleveland Guardians last June after fully recovering from Tommy John surgery. The veteran made eight starts for Cleveland, posting a 2.72 ERA and 10.4 K/9 in 39 2/3 innings.
Boyd also pitched well in the postseason for the Guardians, allowing one earned run with 14 strikeouts in three outings.
The Cubs will be the fifth team of Boyd's 10-year career after stops with the Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, and Toronto Blue Jays.
The southpaw will give the Cubs three solid left-handers atop their rotation, joining Shota Imanaga and Justin Steele. Right-hander Jameson Taillon and Javier Assad are expected to round out Chicago's rotation.
