Boras: Soto has 'begun the process of eliminating teams'

Agent Scott Boras said Tuesday that Juan Soto has started narrowing down his options as he nears a decision in free agency.

"When you're going through these things, he's just got a lot of information to meld through," Boras said of his client, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich.

"We've had meetings with a number of franchises. He's begun the process of eliminating teams and doing things. Juan is a very methodical thinker, so we'll see, but I don't think anything is imminent in the near future."

All the teams seriously contending for his services - widely considered to be the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers - have made offers of more than $600 million, sources told Rosenthal and Drellich.

The assumption is that the present-day value of Soto's next contract will exceed that of the heavily deferred deal Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers last offseason over at least 12 years.

The industry expectation remains that Soto will sign before or during baseball's winter meetings, which begin Sunday.

Soto is on a Hall of Fame trajectory through seven MLB seasons. The 26-year-old already has 201 home runs and 592 RBIs to his name while maintaining a career .421 on-base percentage, the highest among active players.

He finished third in AL MVP voting in 2024.
