Lynn 'surprised' by amount of teams calling as he looks to extend career
Lance Lynn isn't ready to hang up his cleats just yet.
The 37-year-old right-hander wants to extend his career and has fielded numerous calls about continuing to pitch in the majors.
"To be honest, I was surprised by the number of teams that have called," Lynn told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. "It's been a wide variety of teams looking to contend and teams looking to have veteran presence."
Lynn was solid for the St. Louis Cardinals last campaign, authoring a 3.84 ERA and 8.4 K/9 across 117 1/3 innings. However, he was hampered by knee problems, causing the hurler to throw his least amount of frames during a full regular season. The Cardinals declined an $11-million option on Lynn for the 2025 season in October.
The veteran said he's refined his training regime and lost 20 pounds to help cope with the constant knee issues, hoping to return to the same innings eater he's always been. Lynn has thrown 2,006 1/3 innings over his career, which ranks sixth among active MLB pitchers.
"I kind of came to the conclusion that I wasn't done," Lynn said. "And if I'm not done, I've got to change some stuff up, just to make sure I can do the things I need to do and give myself the best chance to stay healthy for as long as I want to do it.
"I think I've revamped every five or six years. Here's another revamp to maybe get ready for my last act here going into my late 30s."
