Romano: 'Difficult couple of days' after Blue Jays non-tendered me
Jordan Romano is excited about his opportunity with the Philadelphia Phillies, but he admits that being non-tendered by the Toronto Blue Jays was tough for him to process at first.
"Yeah, that was a little bit difficult," the 31-year-old pitcher recently said on "The Phillies Show."
"Took me a couple days for it to sink in. ... It was a little difficult for a few days for sure."
The veteran reliever from Markham, Ontario said being let go by his hometown team made things harder to swallow, especially after he spent six big-league seasons with the Blue Jays, which included 105 saves and two All-Star Game appearances.
"That was a difficult couple of days," he explained. "Nothing too crazy, but I was just a little bit bummed."
Romano inked a one-year, $8.5-million deal with the Phillies shortly after he was let go by the Blue Jays. He's ecstatic to be joining an "unbelievable" team that won a division crown in 2024 and is already over being non-tendered by Toronto.
"Reliever, you know, so you've got to have a short memory," he said.
"It was a pretty quick turnaround. Feel like I've had a ton of training over the years, so that made the transition easier."
