Tucker 'definitely' open to extension with Cubs after trade
Kyle Tucker hasn't suited up in a game for the Chicago Cubs and he's already open to a contract extension.
"Definitely. Chicago's a great city to play in, great city in general, so I'm open for anything," Tucker said Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune's Meghan Montemurro.
Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said he's excited to bring in Tucker because he's the type of player Chicago needed on its roster, adding a contract extension is something that will be discussed in the future.
"I don't know what the future holds," Hoyer said, according to Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times.
"But obviously Chicago sells itself really well. And so, I'm excited to bring him in for this year, and we'll see where it goes beyond that. But clearly this was the kind of player that we lacked."
Tucker was acquired in a four-player trade last week after the 27-year-old put together seven fantastic seasons with the Houston Astros, which included three All-Star Game appearances and a 2022 World Series championship.
The Florida native slashed .274/.353/.516 with 125 home runs, 417 RBIs, and 94 steals in 633 games for the Astros before the trade. He also won a Gold Glove as a right fielder in 2022 after amassing 14 defensive runs saved.
He's projected to earn $15.8 million through arbitration and will become a free agent for the first time at the end of the season.
