The Toronto Blue Jays are setting the price high for any teams interested in discussing a trade for All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The Blue Jays would be looking for a package of prospects and major leaguers that exceeds the value the San Diego Padres received when they traded Juan Soto to the New York Yankees in 2023, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.

The Yankees acquired Soto and outfielder Trent Grisham for right-handers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and catcher Kyle Higashioka.

Guerrero is entering his final season of team control and is expected to be the premier free agent following the 2025 campaign.

The Blue Jays haven't engaged Guerrero in contract extension talks since before Christmas but are expected to ramp up the dialogue ahead of Guerrero's self-imposed deadline of the start of spring training, a source told Rosenthal and Sammon.

Guerrero is coming off an excellent 2024 campaign where he slashed .323/.396/.544 with 30 home runs, 44 doubles, and 103 RBIs across 159 games.
