Report: Astros increase offer to Bregman

The Houston Astros are looking at a potential reunion with third baseman Alex Bregman and have increased their offer in hopes of re-signing him.

Houston has improved its initial offer, but the increase is still unlikely to get a deal done, sources told KPRC 2 Houston's Ari Alexander.

The Astros reportedly made Bregman an initial offer of six years and $156 million at the beginning of December, but the infielder was seeking closer to $200 million.

Bregman appears to be seeking that amount over the span of six or seven years and isn't interested in a short-term contract, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported.

Houston appeared to pivot to different players after Bregman refused its initial offer, trading for Isaac Paredes and signing Christian Walker, but Astros general manager Dana Brown has said in recent days the organization is having "internal conversations" about the All-Star third baseman because he's still on the market.

Bregman, 30, is the top player remaining in free agency after spending the past nine seasons with the Astros. He posted an .848 OPS, won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger, and claimed two World Series titles during that span.

The Astros, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays have been linked to Bregman this offseason.
