St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak doesn't see Nolan Arenado being traded anytime soon.

"I think the mindset right now is he's likely going to be part of our club," he said Thursday according to MLB.com's John Denton. "I mean, I definitely feel like it's a better chance than not (he remains a Cardinal)."

The change in tone comes after the Boston Red Sox reportedly signed third baseman Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120-million deal, effectively eliminating them as a potential trade partner.

It was reported Wednesday that Boston is one of five destinations to which Arenada would approve a trade, along with the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and two undisclosed teams.

Arenado vetoed a trade to the Houston Astros earlier this offseason.

The eight-time All-Star winner posted a sub-.800 OPS for the second straight year in 2024. The 16 home runs he hit were his fewest in a 162-game season since his rookie campaign in 2013.

The 33-year-old is still owed $74 million through 2027, $10 million of which is being paid by the Colorado Rockies.
