Although Alex Bregman's position with the Boston Red Sox is still being decided, the club is just happy to have him.

"The most important thing was getting Alex into a Red Sox uniform as an elite defender," Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said during Bregman's introductory press conference Sunday morning.

He added: "The conversations about where he'll play are ongoing, and when the time is right, we'll make that determination."

Bregman joined the Red Sox on a three-year, $120-million deal after nine seasons with the Houston Astros. He started 977 games at third base, where he won his first career Gold Glove in 2024.

Franchise cornerstone Rafael Devers is currently entrenched at third base for Boston despite some defensive limitations. Bregman could see time at second as a result. He started one game there in 2018.

That move would represent a full-circle moment for Bregman given his admiration for Red Sox legend Dustin Pedroia.

"(Pedroia) reached out to me a few times throughout the offseason and talked to me about how special it was to be a part of the Boston Red Sox," Bregman said.

Bregman owns a .272/.366/.483 slash line with 191 home runs, 265 doubles, and 663 RBIs in 1,111 career games.

The two-time All-Star has a career 1.240 OPS at Fenway Park.
