Pirates sign Heaney to 1-year deal reportedly worth $5.25M

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed left-hander Andrew Heaney to a one-year deal, the team announced.

It's reportedly worth $5.25 million, according to The Associated Press.

Heaney's pact includes incentives.

The 33-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Texas Rangers, authoring a 4.22 ERA with 310 strikeouts in 307 1/3 innings.

Heaney tossed 160 frames in 2024 while posting a 4.04 FIP and 8.9 K/9. Opposing hitters batted just .230 against the southpaw's four-seam fastball last season.

The Oklahoma native should join a Pirates rotation that also features Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, Jared Jones, and fellow lefty Bailey Falter.

The Pirates are the sixth team of Heaney's 11-year career. He also suited up for the Rangers, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Miami Marlins.

Pittsburgh reportedly pursued a reunion with left-hander Jose Quintana before agreeing to a deal with Heaney, sources told FanSided's Robert Murray.

The Pirates designated right-hander Brett de Geus for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Heaney.
