Twins trio shaken up by near car crash: It was 'traumatizing'
Three Minnesota Twins players were shaken up after narrowly avoiding a car crash Thursday a few minutes from the club's spring training complex.
Twins right-hander Jorge Alcala and position players Edouard Julien and Matt Wallner were driving in two separate vehicles when the accident occurred.
"We were just driving straight on that street, and we see a car that was going pretty fast, but honestly, Wallner let me know," Julien said, according to MLB.com's Matthew Leach.
"He started screaming, like, 'Oh my God! Oh my God!' He was cussing a little bit, and I've never heard Wallner scared like that. So I look up, and I just see a car that's in a ditch, like in the middle of the road, just going through bushes and going through trees, smaller trees. And all of a sudden, he just jumps up, like six feet in the air."
None of the players suffered any injuries from the incident. However, Julien said he could see the vehicle's underside as it passed by.
The near collision took place as the players drove to Port Charlotte to play the Tampa Bay Rays, with Alcala describing it as "scary" and "traumatizing."
