Devers sets MLB record with 10 strikeouts in 1st 3 games
The nightmare start to the season continues for Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers.
After recording three strikeouts across four at-bats in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers, Devers became the first player in MLB history to strike out 10 times in the campaign's first three games, according to Codify Baseball.
Most strikeouts through first three games
Player | Year | Strikeouts |
---|---|---|
Rafael Devers | 2025 | 10 |
Greg Luzinski | 1974 | 9 |
Wally Post | 1956 | 9 |
Devers didn't seem worried about the rough start after striking out in all four of his at-bats Friday, saying postgame that "everything will change" and reiterating that it had only been two contests.
The 28-year-old generally hasn't struggled with strikeouts, owning a career 21.3% strikeout rate.
However, Devers drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the second inning Saturday for his first RBI of the young season.
The three-time All-Star is adjusting to life as a full-time designated hitter after he spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career at third base. The Red Sox moved Devers away from the hot corner after signing Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman to a three-year contract in February.
