Cubs' Brasier not thrilled to play A's at Triple-A stadium: 'So stupid'
At least one member of the Chicago Cubs is not looking forward to visiting the Athletics for their home opener Monday.
"I think it's so stupid that we have to play at a Triple-A stadium when they have maybe not a perfectly good ballpark in Oakland, but a big-league ballpark. I would have much rather play in Oakland than Sacramento, but I guess it doesn't really matter what we want," Cubs right-hander Ryan Brasier told Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports.
"I really don't get not playing in Oakland opposed to playing in Sacramento."
Brasier and the Cubs will be the first team to visit the Athletics at Sutter Health Park, their temporary home in West Sacramento through 2027. The venue will also host home games for the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats this season.
The Athletics are one of two big-league teams hosting games at a minor-league ballpark this season. The Tampa Bay Rays' home contests are being played at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa after their regular home at Tropicana Field was damaged by a hurricane.
Athletics ownership is in the process of relocating the franchise to Las Vegas after playing in Oakland from 1968-2024.
Monday's home opener for the Athletics, which is set to be played in front of 14,014 fans, is sold out. Season tickets for 2025 are also sold out.
