Verlander impressed by Giants: 'This team has something special'

Justin Verlander is liking what he's seeing from the San Francisco Giants through the first seven games of the 2025 campaign.

The Giants won a wild home opener Friday, defeating the Seattle Mariners 10-9 thanks to Willy Adames' walk-off, two-run single in the 11th inning. The win improved San Francisco's record to 6-1 on the season.

"Like I said in spring, this team has something special," Verlander said postgame, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports. "I thought we were overlooked. It’s early but I think you can see that this team is pretty good."

Verlander struggled in his first home start with the Giants, scattering five hits and two walks with three earned runs across 2 1/3 innings.

The 42-year-old joined the Giants in the offseason, signing a one-year, $15-million contract.
