The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation, the team announced Sunday.

The move is retroactive to April 3. Right-hander Matt Sauer will take Snell's place on the active roster.

Snell is expected to miss two starts after feeling soreness during a bullpen session Sunday.

"I just think if you're not going to finish your bullpen, that's pretty much a tell-all to then ... nip whatever is going on in his arm," manager Dave Roberts said, according to MLB.com's Sonja Chen.

Snell has allowed two earned runs and walked eight in two starts during his first campaign with the Dodgers.

The two-time Cy Young winner signed a five-year, $182-million contract with the Dodgers in November.

Los Angeles is down several starters aside from Snell. Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin, Kyle Hurt, River Ryan, Emmet Sheehan, and Gavin Stone are all on the injured list.
