Stroman lands on IL with knee inflammation
The New York Yankees placed right-hander Marcus Stroman on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left knee inflammation.
Stroman underwent tests following a disastrous outing Friday against the San Francisco Giants.
"When he came out, he said his left knee was bugging him," manager Aaron Boone said after his team's rain-shortened 9-1 loss, per Yankees Videos. "So we got some X-rays here, and I think he went to the hospital to get some more testing, and so we'll see what (results) we have tomorrow."
Stroman struggled from the outset against the Giants, allowing five runs before recording an out. He was pulled after two-thirds of an inning, having allowed four hits, including a three-run homer to Jung Hoo Lee, while walking three.
The outing continued a rough start to the season for the 33-year-old, who now owns a 11.57 ERA and 2.04 WHIP with seven strikeouts and seven walks over three starts.
Stroman appeared to be getting squeezed out of the Yankees' rotation after not pitching during their playoff run last October. However, injuries to starters Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Clarke Schmidt during spring training allowed the New York native to keep his starting spot for at least the beginning of 2025.
The Yankees managed just two hits against Giants pitchers Robbie Ray and Spencer Bivens Friday, before the game was called after five-and-a-half innings due to inclement weather.
