"They were really apologetic," Trout said after meeting with the fan and his young son, who he was trying to protect by catching the ball, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.
"Obviously, didn't really affect the game. I got a kid myself. That kid was probably nine years old. ... They're really nice people."
Trout immediately motioned to the umpires for an interference call after the incident occurred, but they ruled no interference because the contact was initiated out of bounds in foul territory.
The three-time MVP said postgame that the fan got a finger on the ball before he caught it, meaning the play would have been ruled dead regardless of whether he made the catch, per Fletcher.
The incident was ultimately inconsequential, as Yainer Diaz was retired on the next pitch.
The Angels went on to win the game 4-1.
