Morton 'making it tough' on Orioles after dropping to 0-4

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Charlie Morton lamented another tough outing to start the season.

Morton allowed five runs on seven hits in the Orioles' 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night. The loss dropped Morton to 0-4 on the season in his first year with the Orioles.

"I go out there and I'm giving up four, five runs every start," Morton said postgame, according to Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. "That's four starts right there where I'm making it tough on our team. I don't know where we're at if not for me. I don't know."

Morton's ERA sits at 8.84 and his WHIP is approaching two after four outings to start the campaign. The 41-year-old signed a one-year, $15-million contract with the O's in January.

Morton also allowed four runs in each of his last two regular-season starts in 2024 with the Atlanta Braves. The rough patch is the first time Morton has allowed at least four earned runs in six consecutive starts during his 18-year MLB career, according to MLB.com's Alex Fast.

Despite falling to 6-10 on the season, Morton is optimistic the Orioles have the makeup in the clubhouse to right the ship.

"All I know is that the room is full of good people and really talented people," Morton said. "In my experience, that has resulted in really good outcomes."
