Report: White Sox lefty Pérez likely done for year with elbow injury

Chicago White Sox left-hander Martín Pérez is unlikely to return this season after sustaining an elbow injury.

Pérez won't undergo Tommy John surgery but his year is effectively over, although he could resume throwing in September, a source told ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Pérez was diagnosed with a left flexor strain, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin.

The White Sox signed Pérez to a one-year, $5-million contract in January. The 34-year-old posted a 1-1 record with a 3.15 ERA and 18 strikeouts over four starts this season.

Pérez was initially placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation over the weekend. The White Sox transferred him to the 60-day IL on Monday to open up a roster spot.
