D-Backs' Marte returns after missing 23 games with hamstring injury
The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated second baseman Ketel Marte from the injured list, the team announced Friday.
He's batting leadoff Friday night against the Philadelphia Phillies after missing 23 games with a hamstring injury.
Outfielder Jorge Barrosa was optioned to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.
Marte, 31, was off to a hot start at the plate before being sidelined, slashing .346/.469/.930 through 32 plate appearances.
The switch-hitter finished third in National League MVP voting last season after posting career highs in home runs (36), RBIs (95), and OPS+ (155) while hitting atop the Diamondbacks' lineup.
On April 2, Arizona inked Marte to a $116.5-million contract extension that runs through the 2031 season.
The two-time All-Star owns a career .816 OPS (119 OPS+).
