Yankees' Cabrera exits in ambulance after gruesome leg injury

New York Yankees third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera was taken off the field in an ambulance in the ninth inning Tuesday night after injuring his left leg.

Cabrera sustained the injury crossing home plate on an Aaron Judge sacrifice fly against the Seattle Mariners.

"He's at the hospital," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. "Everyone understands it was a pretty serious situation. Just praying for our guy, Cabby tonight."

Cabrera's left leg was placed in an air cast before he was put onto a stretcher and into the ambulance. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The 26-year-old had a hit, a walk, and a run scored in four at-bats in Monday's 11-5 win.

"Oswaldo's the best of us," Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham said postgame. "He shows up everyday with the right attitude, plays the game hard, and he's the best person off the field. We just love him."

Veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu is expected to be reinstated from the injured list Tuesday and will make his season debut in Wednesday's series finale against the Mariners, Boone said, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post.

LeMahieu will likely slide into regular playing time at third base if Cabrera misses an extended period of action.
