The Kansas City Royals designated Hunter Renfroe for assignment in order to recall fellow outfielder Nick Loftin from Triple-A, the team announced Friday.

Renfroe was hitting .182/.241/.242 this season with no home runs, four RBIs, and 21 strikeouts in 108 plate appearances.

His minus-0.9 fWAR was the third-worst mark in the majors by hitters with at least 100 plate appearances. His only valuable metric this season was his 81st-percentile arm strength, according to Baseball Savant.

The 33-year-old was in the second year of a two-year, $13-million deal he signed with the Royals before the 2024 season.

Renfroe ends his Royals tenure with a .219/.286/.362 slash line and 15 homers and 56 RBIs in 155 games.
